Description

As a magazine-recording combo publication, Fast Folk (founded by Jack Hardy in 1982 and acquired by Smithsonian Folkways Records in the late ’90s) provided an outlet for some of the most recognized songwriters like Suzanne Vega, Lyle Lovett and John Gorka. This edition hails from L.A. in November 1993 and brings the voices of Paul Sanchez, Wendie Colter and others together with acoustic folk guitar accompaniment. Randy Kaplan gives a fantastic parody on the one-time seemingly unending open-mike protest singers: “You gotta sing those political songs loud and throaty in order to sweat and seem sexy.”
