- Review
- The 1982 version of Bob Wilber's Bechet Legacy (which consists of Wilber on soprano, trumpeter Glenn Zottola, pianist Mark Shane, guitarist Mike Peters, bassist Reggie Johnson, drummer Butch Miles and singer Pug Horton, who is heard on three songs) is joined by veteran trombonist Vic Dickenson for this spirited CD reissue from 1995. As is expected, most of the songs are associated with Bechet (Wilber's original teacher), including "Margie," "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me," "The Mooche," "Shake It and Break It," and three Bechet originals, plus Wilber's "Ode to Bechet." Dickenson, who helps Horton out with the vocal of "I Get the Blues When It Rains," gets to show off both his sly wit and his subtle playing. Enjoyable music, recommended to trad jazz fans. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
